Lyndonville Staff Makes Holidays Brighter for Local Families

The holidays hold a special meaning to everyone, but especially to children who look forward to unwrapping gifts on Christmas Day.  Unfortunately there are families who have been hit with hard times and are struggling to give their children a day of wonder and a nice family meal.  The Lyndonville Central School District staff is opening up their hearts and their wallets to 14 local families to make sure that the holiday is brighter for all of them.

District Registrar Kim Bow has headed up the annual Adopt a Family at the school for the past four years and says she is blessed to have such amazing and generous coworkers.  “We ask teachers if they can think of any of their students’ families who would like some help this holiday season.  They give me a list and I contact the families to see if they would like to be adopted.  This year we have 23 children we bought for and we were able to raise $700 to purchase Aldi gift cards so the families can get groceries as well.  The outpouring of generosity has been amazing. “

Faculty, staff, community members and a local business have made sure that each child has approximately eight to nine gifts to open Christmas Day.  “We have asked the parents for a list of their child’s needs and wants and got them everything from winter coats and boots to toys,” says Ms. Bow.  “None of our staff knows who we are buying for, we keep that confidential, but we know our students here and what they like.  For example one of our staff members adopted a child who loves the Buffalo Bills.”

At the moment Ms. Bow’s office looks like Santa’s workshop.  “We are arranging with the families to come and pick up the presents and those who cannot, we will load them up and deliver them ourselves.  It is truly a blessing to be working and living here in a small community where people come together to make sure that every child will wake up Christmas morning with a smile on their face.”
