in State Competition

On Sat., Jan. 10, 2015, Heather Dorler from Stockton, N.Y., was named the Distinguished Young Woman of New York and was awarded $2100 in cash scholarships during a statewide scholarship program for high school girls held at Cohoes High School Auditorium, Albany, N.Y.

Dorler was one of eleven high school senior girls from New York who competed to represent the state as the Distinguished Young Woman of New York for 2015. Participants were evaluated in the categories of Scholastics (20%), Interview (25%), Fitness (15%), Self-Expression (15%) and Talent (25%).

The scholarship program awarded $5,000 in scholarships this year. Recipients are: Jonni Mills, Red Hook, N.Y., 1st Runner Up, Scholastics, Interview, and Self-Expression totaling $1400 in scholarships, Keneally Phelan from Harriman, N.Y., won Interview and Scholastics, totaling $500 in scholarships, Sarah Burbank from Moriah, N.Y., won “Be Your Best Self”, Fitness and the Spirit Award, totaling $650.00 in Scholarships, Regan Stacey from Medina, N.Y., won the Be Your Best Self award totaling, $200 and Sarah Pierson from Southampton, N.Y., won the Self-Expression award totaling, $200 in scholarships. Other participants were: Lillith Ida from Ticonderoga, Rachel Lavin from Whitehall, N.Y., Hillit Avnon-Klein from Queens Village, Heather Ryan from Crown Point and Christine Schmidt from Elmira, N.Y.
